Join us!

recreational & cultural activities

When you aren't volunteering...

Not only is Fiji beautiful, the Fijian people are likely among the friendliest people you will ever meet, and their traditional song, dance, and cuisine will enchant you.  There are lots of wonderful recreational activities and cultural excursions available that will be incorporated in your itinerary and included in your package as time permits. Other excursions, like scuba diving on the famous Rainbow Reef and extended resort stays, can be arranged for you at an additional cost.

Below is a sample of all the wonderful onsite and off site activities in our area!

Scuba & Snorkel

Cannibalism has a long history in Fiji, with the last recorded incident being in the 1860s. Unique to MNC visitors is a hike to an ancient privately- owned cave near our property that still contains ancient human bones.

Scuba & Snorkel

Located a short boat ride from the Mission is the famous Rainbow Reef, one of the most beautiful dive and snorkel sites in the world.  You can snorkel at the Mission, with or without a guide, or you can be taken to the Rainbow Reef for guided diving and snorkeling.

kioa island & meke dance

Your visit will likely include a visit to Kioa Island to experience the amazing traditional drum  dance and “handcrafts” of this traditional Polynesian village. Or, you'll receive a visit by traditional Fijian Meke dancers, who tell the stories of grand legends and battles, connecting you to the Fijian culture. The Meke at the Mission is typically followed by a Lovo, a traditional Fijian feast, where traditional food is cooked underground all day in a lovo, or “earth oven”.

A visit to Paradise

Enjoy Fiji’s natural wonders. Take an excursion to the nearby island of Taveuni and slide down the Waitavala natural rock water slide or hike and swim among the island’s towering Bouma waterfalls.  While in Taveuni, stop at the International Date Line and put one foot in the Northern Hemisphere, and one foot in the Southern Hemisphere!

Visit a pearl farm for a sustainability talk, a look at how pearls are harvested, and a boat tour of the hatchery.  If desired, bring snorkel gear and plunge in to see the nets and the giant clams. Need some retail therapy? Visit the gift shop to bring home pearl jewelry right from the source.
